The "legendary" mustard

Mustard is a plant known since the dawn of time, whose flavors and beneficial effects, long appreciated, have been confirmed by modern science. With a strong flavor, ancient and modern at the same time, whose personality enlivens diets and recipes.

The plant through history

Mustard belongs to the Brassicaceae family, and its history goes back a very long way. It was already commonly used in ancient times, by the Romans, Greeks and Egyptians, and earlier still, the first traces of its cultivation date back to 3,000 B.C., in India. The ancients used mustard to preserve foods and as a condiment, sprinkling the seeds over their dishes.

Orco selects only the best mustard seeds, from the Canadian plantations producing the most excellent and genuine quality product.

From the seeds to the sauce

Since the 1920s, the legendary Orco mustard has been made according to the traditional method, with a slow grinding action of heavy millstones known as "molazze". The slow pace of the millwheels’ rotation concentrates the emulsion, giving the mustard the creamy and firm texture that make it truly unmistakable, exalting its aromatic notes of flowers and dried fruit.

Beneficial properties

Mustard and its properties have been known to man for thousands of years, long before science explained the reasons behind them. Mustard seeds are a source of minerals (calcium, magnesium, selenium, potassium and manganese) and vitamins. The oil they contain is low in calories.
